Macha Lookout Tower – Zuberec
On the Machy peak (1202 m above sea level) in the Skorušinské vrchy, on the border of the Zuberec and Oravský Biele Potok districts, the village built a wooden lookout tower in 2021. In addition to the two-story 10-meter-high observation tower, it also has a covered relaxation area with benches.
What will you see?
The southeastern slope of Machy is deforested, so nothing obstructs the view. The entire panorama of the Western Tatras opens up before you – from Sivy vrch through Roháče to Osobitá – and below them, Zuberec spreads out.
How to get there
Leave the church of St. Vendelín in Zuberec following the blue tourist trail, take a dirt road and later a path to the Prieková saddle and from there follow the red trail to the right to Machy. The trail is marked and easy. In winter, ski mountaineers from the Janovky resort can reach here.
Good to know
- The lookout tower is free and available year-round.
- The peak is open to the wind - even in summer, pack an extra layer.
- The covered area under the tower will serve as a shelter in case of rain.
- The most beautiful light in Roháče is in the afternoon and early evening.
