dNO _ BORDER / BORDER

An original production by the dNO Theatre about the division of Orava between Czechoslovakia and Poland (1920).
BORDER / BORDER, however, goes beyond the documentary boundaries of this event and turns attention to universal questions. Through associative and nonlinear images, absurd humor, folklore, political grotesquery, and propaganda tools, the creators explore what a border means to a person – geographical, linguistic, national, but also personal or internal.
The theme of the disruption of international and interpersonal relations is timeless and at times unbearably reminiscent of the polarization and social division of today, in which we constantly fight for our truth and our people. BORDER / BORDER is a challenge to empathy, perspective and critical thinking. However, not through instruction and moralizing, but through a disturbing, musically captivating and visually powerful theatrical experience.
The production won the Best Direction Award, the Best Set Design Award, and the Best Male Performance Award at the Scénická žatva 2025 festival. It was also presented at the Pohoda, FAD Košice, and Belopotockého Mikuláš festivals, where it won the festival's main prize.
