Babia Hora from Lipnica Wielka (Poland)
For the inhabitants of Polish Orava, which belonged to the Orava See until 1920, Babia Hora is the „Holy Mountain of Orava.“ A green trail leads to the summit from the settlement of Przywarówka and Polana Stańcowa in Lipnica Wielka – much quieter than the busy ascents from Zawoja or the Krowiarki Pass.
What will you see?
The route climbs through the forest of the Babiogóra National Park through the place Głodna Woda, higher up it is steeper and passes through a belt of pine trees to the bare rocky peak of Diablak (1,725 m). With good visibility, you can see the entire Tatras, the Orava Dam, the Orava Basin and the Beskydy Mountains.
Good to know
- From Slovak Orava through the Bobrov – Winiarczykówka pass to Lipnica Wielka, then north to Przywarówka.
- Allow 4-5 hours for the ascent and descent. The summit is often windy and cold, even in summer.
- The circuit can be extended along the ridge to the Krowiarki Pass.
- There are no refreshments at the summit and on the ridge.
