Colonnade bridge in Dolny Kubín
A pedestrian bridge crosses the Orava River in Dolný Kubín, which looks as if it was transported here from a Swiss town. The colonnaded bridge is made entirely of wood, except for the supporting pillars, and has a shingle roof. Its current appearance dates back to 1994, when it replaced an older, damaged bridge. It connects the historic center with the Veľký Bysterec district.
What will you see?
- A long covered wooden colonnade overlooking the Orava River.
- Tiny wooden stalls and a marketplace built in the same style.
- Evening lighting, which makes the bridge look most romantic.
- A promenade and cycle path along the river that connects to the bridge.
Good to know
- The bridge itself takes 10-15 minutes, but it's worth combining it with a walk along the waterfront.
- The bridge is free and accessible at any time, and you can cross it even with a stroller.
- From the bridge, it is a few minutes' walk to Florin's House, the Orava Gallery, and the Čaplovič Library; on the other side of the river lies the AquaRelax water park.
