Church of St. Wendelin in Zuberec
The dominant feature of the center of Zuberec is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Vendelín, the patron saint of shepherds and farmers. It was built in 1930–1932 according to the design of Michal Milan Harminec, one of the most important architects of interwar Slovakia, and consecrated in 1933.
What will you see?
- the architecture of Harminc, the author of many churches and public buildings throughout Slovakia
- stone cross in front of the church from 1834, older than the building itself
- relics of St. Wendelín placed in the church in 2007
- in the background the panorama of Roháče and Osobitá
Good to know
- The church is located on Hlavná Street in the center of the village, a stop for a few minutes on the way to Roháčská Valley.
- On the Kýčera hill above the village there is a short Stations of the Cross and the Tonka observation tower.
- Nearby is the Orava Village Museum and the Brestovská Cave - together they make a nice half-day program.
