Orava Village Museum

At the Brestová glade below Roháčmi, a short distance from Zuberec, you can go back a hundred years. The Orava Village Museum is an open-air museum where you can see how people once lived, worked, and prayed in the Orava village.

What will you see?

More than 50 buildings of folk architecture – mostly originals that were dismantled at their original locations and rebuilt here – are arranged into sections. Lower Orava Market, Hornooravaska Street a Goral lazy. There is also a mill with a water mill and a washboard powered by the Studená stream, as well as fields with traditional crops and domestic animals.

The jewel of the area is the wooden Gothic church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary from the 15th century with a painted ceiling and a functional Baroque organ.

Good to know

  • The tour is individual, allow at least 1.5-2 hours. The accompanying text is available in 11 languages, and there is also an app with a voice guide.
  • Free parking is available at the amphitheater, about 150 m from the entrance.
  • Dogs on a leash are welcome and there is no charge.
  • The Millwife's Tavern is open in the summer, and there is a refreshment stand all year round; there are also shops with handicrafts in the area.
  • Folklore and craft events are held here throughout the year, and evening programs in winter. Evening at the Museum.
