The Forest Transformations educational trail was created by the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area Administration and shows how the landscape changes from the bottom of the Orava Basin to the forests at the foot of the mountains. It starts at the lower end of the village of Klin and leads along a circuit of about 9 km.

What will you see?

There are 13 information boards in Slovak and Polish on the route. At the very beginning, it passes by the Klinské rašelinisko with peat bogs and sparse pine forests. It then leads through a mosaic of fields and meadows and continues into the forest. The boards explain what primeval forests are, how the forest ecosystem works and what animals live there, and they also include local history and linen weaving. From higher places there are views of the Oravské Beskydy, Oravská Magura and the Tatras.

Good to know

  • The difficulty is low to medium, suitable for families with older children.
  • The middle part of the route follows the yellow tourist sign.
  • Do not enter the peat bog outside the trail, it is a sensitive protected area.
  • The route is not suitable for strollers.
  • A short distance away is the lookout tower by the peat bog and the Statue of Christ on the Grape.
