The road to the village of Vlkolínec leads directly from our restaurant. The most valuable thing that belongs to Ružomberok is the foothill settlement of Vlkolínec. In Vlkolínec, the original architecture and structure of the mountain settlement of zeliars, shepherds and lumberjacks have been preserved. The wooden log houses that grew up along the stream rise in the sloping terrain of the Veľká Fatra below the Sidorovo hill. The surroundings of Vlkolínec consist of fruit gardens, terraced fields, meadows dotted with wooden haystacks and forests.
The log houses are built in the classic Liptov style, from hewn logs of coniferous trees placed on a stone foundation. The roofs of the houses are covered with wooden shingles, as wood was once the most affordable material for roofing. The log houses consist of three rooms, an entrance hall, which served as a kitchen, a pantry for storing food and tools, and a room, which served as a living space for all activities and also for sleeping the whole family.
