Lime kiln in Zuberec
Above Zuberec, in the Vápenice area under the Sivy vrch massif, the remains of a lime kiln have been preserved, in which local residents burned lime for decades. At first, small primitive wood-fired kilns were built here, and a larger municipal kiln was built in 1900. The last lime was burned here in 1961.
What will you see?

Good to know
- Lime was mainly used to whitewash the interiors of wooden houses - in the Orava Village Museum you can see what such houses looked like.
- The journey takes about 30 minutes from the upper end of Zuberec towards Úplazíky, sturdy shoes are recommended.
- There are no services or refreshments at the oven, so bring water with you.
