Čaplovič Library and Literary Exhibition of the Hviezdoslav Library
The building on Hviezdoslav Square in Dolny Kubín unites two literary treasures of Orava. The first is the Čaplovič Library – a historical collection donated to the Orava See by scholar and collector Vavrinec Čaplovič in 1839. The second is the literary exhibition of Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav, which was established in 1954 and is considered the oldest literary museum in Slovakia.
What will you see?
- A selection from the collection, which today numbers over 90,000 library items from the 14th to the 21st centuries - manuscripts, incunabula (prints before 1500), old maps and works of art.
- Čaplovič's handwritten donation deed and objects from his collections.
- Three rooms dedicated to Hviezdoslav with his personal belongings, study, clothes and period furniture.
- In front of the entrance is a life-size bronze statue of the poet.
Good to know
- Allow approximately an hour for both exhibitions; a combined ticket is more economical.
- Admission is paid in cash only.
- Right next door is the Orava Gallery in the County House and nearby is Florin's House.
