Hviezdoslav's Gamekeeper's Lodge – Literary Exhibition
In the quiet forest landscape below Babá Hora stands a log gamekeeper's lodge, which is associated with one of the most famous works of Slovak literature. In the 1880s, Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav often visited here, and the local nature and people inspired him to write the epic poem The Gamekeeper's Wife. The original building burned down in 1912, and today's gamekeeper's lodge is a faithful reconstruction of it on the original foundations.
What will you see?
The Orava Museum opened a literary exhibition dedicated to Hviezdoslav here in October 1979 – it is considered the first literary museum in Slovakia focused on one specific work. You will see period-decorated rooms, manuscripts and presentations that illustrate the creation of the poem and life in the mountain hut. The second exhibition belongs to the writer Milo Urban, who was born here in 1904.
