In Hungarian times, Jabłonka was the seat of the notary district in the Orava See. After the division of Orava in 1920, it became the natural center of the Polish part of the region. In the middle of the town stands the classicist Church of the Transfiguration, which is listed in the Register of Monuments.

What will you see?

The church was built in 1802-1807. The main altar and side altars come from Tyrol and the organ was brought from Hungary in 1914. In the 1930s, the chapel of Our Lady of Częstochowa and stained glass windows were added according to the designs of Kazimierz Puchał. There is also a monument to this pope on Jána Pavla II Street, from which the Tatras can be seen on clear weather.

Good to know

  • From the Slovak Orava via the Trstená – Chyżne pass, from there it is about 10 km to Jabłonka.
  • Jabłonka is a good base for exploring Polish Orava - shops, restaurants, gas stations.
  • The trip can be combined with Orawka and Podwilka or with the open-air museum in Zubrzyca Górna.
