While Orava Castle was accessible on foot or on horseback, the nobility traveled in elegant carriages. The private museum in Oravský Podzámek, opened on May 1, 2008, presents the most extensive collection of carriages and sleighs in Slovakia, complementing a visit to the castle with a glimpse into the period's way of traveling.

What will you see?

  • 21 exhibits, most of which have been carefully restored to their original form.
  • Luxurious Landauer and Landaulet carriages, elegant Mylords for gentlemen and Victorias for ladies.
  • Discreet city coupes and hunting carriages.
  • Winter sleds that the nobility used on snowy roads.

Good to know

  • The tour lasts approximately an hour.
  • The museum is located only about 200 meters from Orava Castle - an ideal addition to a trip to the castle, especially for children.
  • Photography and filming are available for a small fee.
  • The exhibition is under a roof, so it is a good option even for a rainy day.
