Martin Kukučín Memorial House in Jasenová
In the small village of Jasenová, only about five kilometers from Dolný Kubín, Martin Kukučín was born in 1860 – writer, playwright and doctor, author of Dom v stráni and Rysavej jalovice. The house was built by his father in 1856 and the Orava Museum now houses a commemorative exhibition. The building has retained the character of a typical Orava country house.
What will you see?
- An original village homestead with period furniture, which shows the environment in which the future writer grew up.
- Work tools and objects of everyday life of the inhabitants of Jasenová at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
- A literary section dedicated to Kukučín's life and work.
- In the neighboring park, there is a statue of Martin Kukučín.
Good to know
- The tour lasts about 30-45 minutes.
- The house does not have an internet connection, so visits can only be arranged by phone.
- Jasenová lies at the foot of the Choč Mountains - you can combine the trip with a visit to Dolný Kubín, Leštíny or Istebný.
